E'Twaun Moore Doing It All For Pelicans

There’s no denying the power of the Peli-Cats.

Former Kentucky Wildcats Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo and Darius Miller, all now prominent members of the New Orleans Pelicans, spearheaded a pilgrimage of sorts this week.

They led a voluntary practice in their old college home of Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday afternoon, taking to social media to show off UK’s practice court and weight room. At least 13 members of the Pelicans attended the first workout in Lexington.

Prominent veterans and newcomers alike were at the workouts, including Jrue Holiday, Quincy Pondexter, E’Twaun Moore, Ian Clark, Jordan Crawford, Cheick Diallo, Frank Jackson, Charles Cook and Jalen Jones.

A photo on the Instagram page of Pelicans star DeMarcus Cousins shows members of the team working out at Kentucky's practice facility Monday, Aug. 21, 2017.

“Back in the trenches with the squad!” Cousins wrote as a caption on an Instagram photo of the group.

Voluntary workouts are nothing new for the Pelicans, who have held offseason gatherings in Los Angeles each of the past two seasons. But hosting sessions in Lexington reaffirms this team’s reputation as a byproduct of the successful Kentucky basketball program.

Coach John Calipari basked in the attention, posting a photo of UK’s four former stars on their old practice floor.

“Our family reunion got started a little early this week with the Pelicans back in town,” Calipari wrote on Twitter, adding the hashtag #LaFamilia.

It’s part of a star-studded week for Calipari, who will host a charity game featuring a bevy of former players Friday night in Rupp Arena.

The quartet of Peli-Cats went a step further, bringing their non-Kentucky teammates along for the ride.

“We are going to get this team lift in,” Davis said in an Instagram video posted of the UK weight room by strength coach Jason Sumerlin. “Everybody is in here. Everybody is in here.”
